| Mental Health Initiatives
Kelly Guzman is a licensed master social worker (LMSW) in the state of Kansas, and the founder of Alianzas Counseling Kansas LLC, a bilingual mental health practice in Wichita, Kansas. Her practice focuses on serving bilingual and monolingual Spanish-speaking families who seek support in their language, both in direct therapy services and in advocacy and health equity work. Kelly leverages her extensive background in interdisciplinary work to provide a holistic approach to mental health care and joined Alce su Voz in 2024 as a project associate. At Alce su Voz, she is focusing on mental health initiatives to support linguistic justice.
Kelly’s hometown is South Central Los Angeles where there are currently issues of gentrification and erasure of the communities of color who once lived there. She encountered a significant cultural shift when moving to Wichita, Kansas which deepened her understanding of diverse perspectives and resilience. Raised in a monolingual, Salvadorian and Guatemalan household, Kelly draws from her own lived experiences to inform her practice and work with Alce su Voz.
Kelly graduated from Wichita State University in 2012 with a BA in Biological Sciences and minors in Anthropology and Chemistry, and in 2017 with a MA in Social Work. In her work with COMCARE of Sedgwick County and USD 259, she helped implement the Kansas Opportunity Support Program (KOSP), a school-based mental health initiative, as both a children’s mental health therapist and Behavioral Health School Liaison at multiple elementary schools. In this work, Kelly realized Spanish-speaking families had minimal access to culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health care services which sparked her interest in understanding barriers to mental health care services and providing direct services to Spanish-speaking families. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys reading, knitting, and drinking cafecito.
